This is our newest baby, Lucky.   She came to us from a family that had raised her from a 3 1/2 week old pup.  With 3 other dogs in the house, Lucky was not getting much attention at her previous home.  She usually sat in the corner by herself. Also, her owners had an in-the-ground swimming pool that frightened Lucky so much that she would not go out in the yard willingly.  Lucky's previous owners were very selective and wanted Lucky to have a safe, loving home with children, a large fenced-in yard, and another dog to keep her company.  We were interviewed by phone, then went to meet her, and several days later on August 4, 2001, they brought her over to our home for a visit.  I guess we passed because they let her stay with us.

I brought Lucky to meet our vet, Dr. Jon of Magnolia Animal Hospital.  Dr. Jon fell in love with her and gave her lots of hugs and kisses.  Dr. Jon pronounced Lucky a very healthy dog and brought her up-to-date on all her shots.

Lucky is 7-8 years old and weighs about 95 lbs.  She is very tall and can rest her head on our kitchen table.  Lucky looks like she may be a black lab/doberman mix. She definitely has the lab temperment.  Lucky's previous owners found her alongside the road after witnessing her being thrown from a truck.  They immediately brought her to their vet who said she was very Lucky to have survived such an ordeal with no serious injuries.  Thus she was named, Lucky!

Lucky is very gentle and sweet.  For the first couple of weeks, Lucky would frequently find a corner to hide in. I constantly called her out to join the family. It took some time, but now she's usually right in the middle of the room looking for attention. She has adjusted so well to our family that it seems like we've always had her. Lucky and Max get along well - actually they're inseparable now. They love to wrestle and romp together; they even snooze together.

Lucky loves our large fenced-in backyard and spends alot of time investigating with Max.  Max is obsessed with rabbits and barks constantly when he sees one.   Lucky now joins Max on his rabbit sightings and will give them at lease one woof.

We were lucky to adopt Lucky!

Lucky won a prize for "Best Costume" at a Halloween party sponsored by our vet (Dr. Jon of Magnolia Animal Hospital in Raleigh)

Update on Lucky 06/04/02 - We took her to our place at Lake Gaston in Virginia. Guess what? Lucky loves to swim! The info we were given by her previous owner is incorrect. I've never heard of a lab being afraid of water. When we brought Lucky down to the lake, she immediately ran to the water and jumped in!

Update on Lucky 09/11/02 - Lucky started limping and crying in pain when she tried to walk. It broke my heart to see her in pain. After several trips to the vet we have determined that Lucky is suffering from degenerative joint disease. Due to her age and health, we were advised that Lucky is not a good candidate for surgery. After several tries, we've found an anti-inflamatory that keeps Lucky comfortable. We love this senior lady and will do everything we can to make her happy!

Update 07/08/09 - Lucky passed away on 02/11/09. She was between 14-15 years old and died of renal (kidney) failure due to old age. She was the sweetest soul I ever met and was my best friend for 8 wonderful years. I am still so heartbroken that I can't write about her without breaking down. As soon as I'm able, I will write more about my beautiful girl who I miss so much. She deserves a proper tribute.
